Do we have to put "the" before proper nouns? No, we do not!
Here's a video clip that further explains common and proper nouns:
Students always mistakenly use "the" before proper nouns. Refer to the following sentences:
Wrong: I want to go to the Kuala Lumpur.
Right: I want to go to Kuala Lumpur.
Wrong : This book belongs to the Ahmad.
Right : This book belongs to Ahmad.
Wrong : Ahmad studies in the SAM Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi.
Right : Ahmad studies in SAM Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi.
Wrong : I was born in the Selangor.
Right : I was born in Selangor.
Wrong : My favourite author is the J.K. Rowling.
Right : My favourite author is J.K. Rowling.
However, there are exceptions where we have to use "the" before proper nouns.
For example:
The tourists are from the United States of America.
I would like to further my studies in the United Kingdom.
My father bought a Proton Preve. The Proton Preve is white.
